    It was another good book by this author; however, while I normally enjoy her ability to make you feel her stories, I wish she wasn’t as good at her job this time. I’m thoroughly against spoilers, so I won’t ruin it, but if you have experienced certain types of trauma and abuse, this may be very difficult to read. I read part of the book years ago and couldn’t finish. I apparently blocked out the books because while they looked familiar, nothing in the first two seemed familiar. By the time I figured out that I had read them but stopped for a reason, it was too late to prevent another round of secondary trauma.

    This became good urban fantasy with this novel. It’s strong reminiscent of the Dresden Files, in that the main character is on the back foot, struggling against supernatural forces beyond her ken. She winds up drawing on previously revealed groups and trying to balance the various factions against each other.

  • Keeps getting better

    First werewolves, then vampires, now the fae take center stage in the third Mercy Thompson book. The romantic tension between Mercy, Adam and Samuel finally sees a resolution, and once again we see deeper into the supporting characters. The plot is better crafted than the first two books. SPOILER WARNING: This book deals directly with sexual violence towards women. I think Briggs does a good job writing that part by not getting graphic with the act but dealing instead with the emotional aftermath. However, if that's not a topic you're comfortable reading about, then maybe skip this book (or the ending).

    This series, as well as all her other books thus far are enticing and addicting. I can never be satisfied with finishing one book without wanting more. Patricia Briggs is amazing and ensnaring withher works.

    The third book in the series, and so far the best!! It only took me about a four days to read and I'm no fast reader. I just could not put it down! Can't wate to read the next one.
